Camps 4 Champs provides at-risk boys and girls of all ages with an opportunity to demonstrate their personal best by attending different camps at all local high schools, colleges and other camp locations. Participants attend day and overnight camps that focus on character development along with life skills taught through drills learned in basketball, football, wrestling, cheerleading, volleyball, softball and more. Thanks to the generosity of area businesses, individual donors, schools and universities, open camp slots are offered free of charge to children enrolled at the Boys and Girls Club or living at the Center for the Homeless.

The program was developed in 2008 in honor of Mark Tulchinsky who served in the South Bend Community School Corporation for nearly 40 years as a teacher and principal. His mantra was that each student and each person involved in the educational process perform at their personal best. The Mark Tulchinsky Camps 4 Champs program is committed to carrying out Mark's mission of providing opportunities for at-risk youth to demonstrate their "personal best."

In its first year, the program filled 219 camp spots for at-risk youth, valued at over $19,000. This year, Camps 4 Champs hopes to secure over 400 camp opportunities. Those interested in contributing space at any camp or donating funds to help pay for equipment/resources can contact Nicole Lawler at 574.234.0051, x305.
