South Bend Regional Airport
Local industrialist Vincent Bendix, whose company was instrumental in the development of aviation systems, began construction on the South Bend Regional Airport in 1929. Back then, the airport logged a handful of flights posted on a chalkboard, outdoors near a dirt runway. Today, the South Bend Regional Airport is the only airport in the United States to offer air, intercity rail and interstate bus service all at one convenient location. More than one million travelers are served there annually.St. Joseph County Airport Authority
